4 Months 3 Weeks 2 Nights – Hmmm – Dark Reality

Posted by kiranmalla on June 27, 2008

4 Months 3 Weeks 2 Nights

should abortions be legalized. how does a girl look at it and bear with it. these are two immediate questions that arise while watching this movie.

brilliant screenplay with some tricky editing- an efficient use of pauses and silences. slow paced with quick turns – grips u and loosens u to get the feel of the pulse. u realize little lately whats happening inn the movie and u hold on to knowing it – thats where it scores.

not a great one but a certain way to realize the occurrence of dark realities in our lives. brutally honest and makes u feel ashamed of certain things in life.

well its a Romanian movie – so not sure if it appeals to those who read too much in voice and modulations

IMDb – 8.0

Khoya Khoya – Dump It – Dull and Tiring

Posted by kiranmalla on January 1, 2008

Khoya Khoya Chand, 2007

I like movies for the sense of emotions they can evoke and the ability of the writers to play God. A script writer literally gives birth to characters and shapes their lives to his desire. And thats the brilliance of any art form – the Creativity. So for me, script is utmost important and I call a movie good only when it can talk to me, when i am made to respond with expressions and feelings – Khoya Khoya Chand made me numb and i have to call this movie Bakwaas.

I am sure people would have appreciated two things in this movie, one, the intentions and only the intentions of recreating and celebrating 70’s and two, the stunning visuals of people and places. But that ends the first time you notice it, the good feel can’t last for the length of the movie, more so, when the plot lacks the depth.

The movie is a love story but you barely feel the intensity or the passion. You end up agreeing without really approving and those unnecessary acts of lovemaking make you wince. The only emotion that glares through the screen is anger and helplessness and your state as you watch the movie, can be no different.

Khoya Khoya Chand lacks humor and completely misses the only possibility of entertaining with out humor, that of an extreme case of gripping and suspense. The heavy words packed loosely with long silences lack the punch to take us to a different state and you are only dra-a-a-gged through different scenes. This is when you realize how good Om Shanti Om is – besides being boring in the later part of second half, OSO comes out as an out-and-out entertainer with a lively SRK and takes you through the scenes with large doses of laughter. You will miss that colorful life in this movie.

Coming to performances, Soha has made a genuine attempt and it shows. But she lacks the persona to enact a star in this movie. She fails to stand out in the crowd and for that matter Sonia Jehan is very impressive as the reigning diva. Shiney Ahuja should realize that an actor has to be lively, not just intense. Saurabh Shukla is the only character that gives some laughs.

So, all in all, this is certainly not a movie for large screens and can be limited to DVD Players, T.V and Video Coaches.
