Obama – A fresh change

Posted by kiranmalla on January 5, 2008

“They said – this day will never come.” I some how have a strong feeling that this sentence will be remembered for a long time to come. Barack Obama, with out any doubt, can get together people with his words. His demeanor and speech are picture perfect.

I am not so much excited about he being a African-American. What took me by surprise is the fact that he grew up in culturally diverse surroundings. His father was a Kenyan, he was born in Hawaii, moved to Indonesia in his pre teens and back to Hawaii until his graduation. His parents were separated when he was 2 years old and he was into alcohol and drugs to come to terms with his multi racial background.

A person with this background goes to U.S, gets a political science major from Columbia University, becomes a Harvard law graduate and now is contesting for the most powerful position in the world – President of United States. This to me symbolizes hope and possibility. True, one has to still reason out as to how fitting he would be to handle the dirty and dangerous geo-politics around the world. To my instincts however, he seems very capable and convincing.
